- Contact Lists: Phone numbers of friends/family you invite as contributors (subscribers only)
1.2 Information We Collect Automatically
- SMS Data: Message delivery status, timestamps, response rates
- Usage Data: How you interact with our service, including website visits and feature usage
- Device Information: Phone number, carrier information (from Twilio)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Deliver monthly questions via SMS
- Transcribe voice memos you send
- Compile your responses into personalized newspapers
- Print and ship newspapers to subscribers
- Send reminders if you haven't responded
- Deliver blurred digital previews to contributors
- Process payments for subscriptions
- Improve our question quality and service
- Communicate with you about your account or service updates
- Comply with legal obligations
3. How Your Responses Are Used
3.1 For Contributors (Non-Paying Participants)
When you agree to contribute to Knit:
- Your responses to monthly questions will appear in printed newspapers delivered to subscribers who added you to their network
- Your responses may appear in multiple newspapers if multiple subscribers added you
- You answer questions once per month; those answers populate all relevant newspapers
- You will receive a blurred digital preview showing only your own responses
- Your responses are not sold or shared outside of the Knit newspaper service
3.2 For Subscribers (Paying Users)
Your responses (if you also contribute) are used the same way as other contributors, plus:
- You receive the full unblurred newspapers you subscribed to
- Your shipping address is used only for newspaper delivery
- Your payment information is processed securely through Stripe
4. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We share your information only in these circumstances:
4.1 Within the Knit Network
- Your responses appear in newspapers of subscribers who added you as a contributor
- Your name and responses are visible to those subscribers
- This is the core functionality of the service
4.2 Service Providers
We share information with third-party service providers who help us operate:
- Twilio: SMS messaging platform (phone numbers, message content)
- Deepgram/AssemblyAI: Voice transcription services (voice memos only)
- Stripe: Payment processing (subscribers only)
- Printing Partners: Commercial printers (newspaper content, shipping addresses)
- USPS: Shipping carrier (delivery addresses)
4.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government request.
4.4 Business Transfers
If Knit is acquired or merged, your information may be transferred to the new entity.
5. Your Rights and Choices
5.1 Opt-Out
- Text STOP to our number at any time to stop receiving messages
- You will be removed from all newspapers within 24 hours
- Past responses in already-printed newspapers cannot be removed
5.2 Access and Deletion
- Request a copy of your data by emailing us
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Note: Deletion does not affect already-printed newspapers
5.3 Correction
You can correct your name, phone number, or address by contacting us.
5.4 Marketing Communications
We send only service-related messages (questions, reminders, previews). We do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt-in.
6. Data Retention
- Active Contributors: We retain your data while you participate
- Inactive Contributors: Data retained for 12 months after last response, then deleted
- Opted-Out Users: Phone number kept in suppression list to prevent re-invitation; all other data deleted within 30 days
- Subscribers: Data retained while subscribed, then for 12 months for customer service purposes
- Financial Records: Retained for 7 years for tax compliance
7. Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Secure database storage with access controls
- Payment information handled by PCI-compliant Stripe (we never store credit card numbers)
- Regular security audits
However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's Privacy
Knit is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 18. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.
9. SMS/Text Messaging
By providing your phone number and opting in, you consent to receive:
- Monthly question messages (3 per month)
- Follow-up questions from our AI system
- Reminder messages if you haven't responded
- Digital preview delivery notifications
Message frequency: Approximately 5-15 messages per month (varies based on your response length)

10. International Users
Knit currently operates in the United States. If you are accessing our service from outside the US, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States. By using our service, you consent to this transfer.

- Right to know if we sell or share personal information (we don't)
